Circumstances Matter

People regularly ask which decisions had the biggest impact on my career.

The best decision I made was to leave my business and take a job.

The second best was to leave a job and start a business.

On the surface, these are polar opposites. Yet I consider them the two decisions that had the biggest impact on my professional life.

The key wasn't just what I decided. It was when.

The decisions were three years apart. In those three years I had become a different person, with different knowledge, different connections and different circumstances.

There is no globally best decision, career or answer. Only what is best for you at that point in time, in the circumstances you are in.

So don't look to others to decide for you.
