Privacy

This page explains what information anj.am collects, why, and what you can do about it. I have kept it to what the site actually does.

Who I am

anj.am is my personal website. I am Anjam Sohail, and I am responsible for the personal information collected here (the “controller”, in data protection terms). You can contact me about anything on this page at privacy@anj.am.

If you join The Jam

When you enter your email address to receive The Jam, I store:

• your email address;
• when you signed up, and which form you used;
• that you have agreed to receive The Jam and other occasional emails from me;
• whether your subscription is active.

I use this only to send you The Jam and other emails from me. Signing up is how you give your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time. Nothing is sent to you when you sign up, and I will never sell your address or share it for anyone else’s marketing.

If you ask for a guide

When you ask for a free guide, I store your email address, which guide you asked for, when, and whether the email delivering it was sent. I use this to send you the guide, once.

Asking for a guide does not sign you up to The Jam. That only happens if you tick the box on the guide form. If you already subscribe, your existing details stay as they are and the request is added to your record.

Analytics, only if you allow it

With your permission, I use Google Analytics to see which pages are read, roughly where visitors are and what devices they use. It sets two cookies (_ga and _ga_S2DWMVTZ43) and sends Google information about your visit, including your IP address.

It only runs if you choose “Allow analytics”. If you choose “No thanks”, or do nothing, Google Analytics does not load at all. Google’s advertising features are always switched off.

Your choice is remembered in your browser for 12 months. You can change it at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page; turning analytics off also deletes its cookies.

Keeping the forms free of spam

The sign-up and guide forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person, not a bot, is sending them. It looks at information about your browser and connection when you use a form. I rely on my legitimate interest in keeping the forms, and my email address’s reputation, free of abuse.

Running the website

Like any website, anj.am’s host receives technical information such as your IP address and browser when you visit, to deliver the pages and protect the site. The site’s fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser also connects to Google for those.

Who else handles your information

I use a small number of services to run the site. They process information on my behalf and only as needed:

• Cloudflare hosts the website and the subscriber list (stored in Western Europe), and runs the spam check.
• Google provides Google Analytics (only with your permission) and the fonts.
• Resend sends the emails that deliver guides.

Some of these companies are based in, or process information in, the United States. Where information leaves the UK, it is protected by the safeguards UK data protection law requires.

How long I keep it

I keep The Jam subscribers’ details until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete them. If you have only asked for a guide, I keep that record for 24 months after your last request, then delete it. Google Analytics keeps visit data for up to 14 months.

Your rights

You can ask me for a copy of the information I hold about you, and to correct it, delete it, or stop using it. You can withdraw your consent at any time; that does not affect anything done before. To unsubscribe from The Jam, use the link in any email or contact me at privacy@anj.am.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please tell me first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Children

anj.am is not aimed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If what the site collects changes, I will update this page and the date at the top.
